2. Eve: Valkyrie
We first saw Eve: Valkyrie in action during CES 2014, when the VR-maker showcased the Rift Crystal Cove prototype. We were starstruck. Two years in the making and our enthusiasm hasn’t dwindled. We simply can’t wait for our headset to arrive as a free copy of Eve: Valkyrie will come bundled.
Players will control a starship directly from the cockpit, dogfighting with attacking ships, and exploring the vast and mysterious universe.
Developer: CCP Games
Release Date: March 2016
3. Edge of Nowhere
Edge of Nowhere is a third-person action-adventure title where your avatar has embarked on a journey into the Antarctic mountains, searching for a missing expedition team. Yet, freezing cold isn’t your only enemy.
During last year’s E3 we had the opportunity of meddling with Edge of Nowhere, and we noticed so many Uncharted elements – such as how the environments collapse all around, superb camera mechanics, and adrenaline-surging leaps; that make it a definite must-have title on Oculus Rift.
Developer: Insomniac Games
Release Date: 2016
4. Chronos
Chronos has a fantastic progression mechanic. You see, while you play, advancing from level to level, progressing towards the end of the game, your character will age. You’ll start as a young warrior filled with passion, and probably end up a jaded, but wise, old wizard.
Gameplay-wise, it delves into room-to-room exploration and fighting. Nothing new, but we are quite curios to see the virtual reality experience of this classic game style.
Developer: Gunfire Games
Release Date: March 2016
5. Job Simulator
Job Simulator uses Oculus Touch in order to let the player screw around, and basically, do whatever he, or she, wants to do in the sandbox world. You can interact with commonly-found workplace objects present in environments like a kitchen or office cubicle.
There are objectives and tasks, of course, but it’s much more fun to just throw knives at everything and anything, bash spoons against the fridge, or chug a keyboard into your colleague’s opposing cubicle.
It sounds dull and basic, but because everything feels lifelike, it makes Job Simulator a ton of fun.
Developer: Owlchemy Labs
Release Date: Q1 2016
6. Rock Band VR
The trailer looks like all kinds of meh – most likely because of all the poorly-written and poorly-delivered jokes, bad acting, and Dragon Force. Really? Dragon Force? You couldn’t go for something else?
But, the idea is there. Who doesn’t love to feel like a rock star while playing his favorite songs, wearing only jammies, on a lazy Sunday morning?
The only thing that I’m worried about is that Rock Band will not have an interesting-enough library of songs. If you give us a whole Dragon Force album, no essential classics, and only obscure hipster bands, we’ll all be disappointed.
Don’t mess this up Harmonix!
Developer: Harmonix and Oculus
Release Date: 2016
